I’m Kie (pronounced like “pie” but with a “K!”), a Hoosier calling southern Indiana home for the last 18 years. I’ve graduated from here, married my high school sweetheart, and now have two wonderful daughters. Having spent over ten years as an insurance agent, COVID happened, which led me to look for something new and luckily find NO-BS Marketplace based out of Australia. What I lacked in SEO knowledge to start, I made up for with my decades of experience working with businesses, finding their pain points in insurance and coming up with creative solutions that were easy for them to understand.

SEO/Digital marketing, just like insurance, is loaded with weird terms and phrases that most don’t understand unless they’re fully drinking the Kool-Aid. With NO-BS, our name is quite literally our motto…having no-BS in everything we do, which was the same approach I took when speaking about insurance, and what made NO-BS a perfect fit for me! We pull the curtain back so you can see what the little green wizard (in this case, Google) is doing and empower you with helpful knowledge to hopefully start understanding this industry more than when you started.

I coach Cross-Country at Charlestown Middle School and co-founded Pirate Run Club, a local 501(c)(3) running club for ages 5 to 18. I’m a huge movie/show enthusiast (as you probably caught from above), so be prepared for me to ask what your favorite is too! I’m a boomer trapped in a millennial’s body with a child’s sense of humor, making my outlook on life be determined if I’ve had a snack and afternoon nap!

The road to success isn’t straight and well-paved. Behind the accolades and success that NO-BS Marketplace enjoys today are years of setbacks. It all began with two brothers who dreamt big, as with most startup entrepreneurs.

2014: Founding Studio 56

2014: Founding Studio 56

Before NO-BS Marketplace, the company was established under a different name: Studio 56. Based in Melbourne, this startup digital marketing agency provided digital marketing solutions to small and medium-sized businesses.

2016: Forming an Internal Team

2016: Forming an Internal Team

It took two years before Aaron and Tristan finally noticed patterns in their SEO struggles. One of these was the inability to review a publisher’s quality before getting the content published. This just wouldn’t do, as there’s the risk of the provider resorting to black-hat practices like using poor-quality sources of backlinks like private blog networks (PBNs).

As the saying goes: “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” Later in the year, the brothers began training their own team in what would become our brand of SEO. Among the company’s first clients were members of BlackHatWorld, an online SEO forum. In the first month alone, they delivered over AUD$50,000 worth of links.

2017: The NO-BS Platform Goes Public

Aaron and Tristan seemed to have found their solution, but several issues still hindered their success. After the record BlackHatWorld sale, the team discovered they lacked the tools to handle large orders. They needed a more efficient system.

This came in the form of the NO-BS Marketplace platform, which was released to positive acclaim. In the first year of its operation, the company recorded more than AUD$500,000 in sales and month-on-month growth of over 10%. Scalability continued to be a major pain, especially with a growing platform demand.

2019: Rebuilding the Platform

2019: Rebuilding the Platform

Two years after its successful debut, the platform underwent a complete rebuild to better facilitate large orders. Six months and AUD$100,000 later, it became more powerful and user-friendly for clients and staff.

NO-BS Marketplace opened its first brick-and-mortar office in Geelong, a city south of Melbourne. Before long, it rolled out its account-managed services, allowing clients to manage their SEO through one of our Account Managers.

A lot of people agree that 2020 was the worst year of the century to date, mainly brought about by the global COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses were hit hard, as quarantines had denied them customers, forcing some to close up shop.

Yet, the digital medium saw this as an opportunity, with many brands going digital at an unprecedented rate. In a way, this fueled NO-BS Marketplace’s growth throughout this year, doubling its workforce and opening a second office in downtown Melbourne. The expansion was in preparation for the rollout of its new services.

2021: Introducing Content and SEO Services

2021: Introducing Content and SEO Services

Supplementing its flagship link building service is content creation and SEO services. They would add more value to a client’s digital marketing needs by enabling more intricate SEO for their brand. The team also saw another round of expansion, forming a team of content writers to satisfy clients’ on-page and off-page SEO requirements.

As most of its workforce was spread across the globe, the company decided to go fully remote by closing its physical offices.

2023: Upgrading the Platform

2023: Upgrading the Platform

NO-BS Marketplace’s expansion of services continued into 2023, upgrading the platform to support new ones like an open publisher list and PR links. In addition, the pricing structure also underwent changes to provide discounts for bulk orders.

2024: Going Stateside

2024: Going Stateside

Embarking on the next phase of its growth roadmap, NO-BS Marketplace opened hubs in several U.S. cities, including Indianapolis. This enables the company to expand its reach and deliver results to clients faster. Expect more hubs to open in more locations.
